Softshell clothing is ideal for winter conditions where rain is unlikely and breath-ability is key. They are highly water resistant ok for showers but not waterproof and all have sewn through seams. They are windproof, add more warmth than a waterproof but not as much as a fleece and are more breathable and therefore more comfortable to wear.
